Look into local government’s preparedness

Find out about your local government's emergency preparedness; review evacuation zones and routes

The increased likelihood of river or storm tide flooding associated with tropical cyclones suggests that evacuation might be an increasingly appropriate risk management strategy for Queensland communities.

Emergency Management Queensland has produced guidelines to provide for a consistent approach to evacuation, and will support Local Disaster Managements Groups throughout the implementation and planning phases. Local Disaster Management Groups will develop evacuation strategies, identify the hazards, determine at-risk areas, analyse the at-risk population, and determine evacuation timelines.

As a result, every Queensland resident will be aware that they may live within a local government planned evacuation zone for a range of hazards including, storm tide, riverine flooding, or tsunami and that they can follow evacuation instructions, regardless of the zone in which they live or the hazard they may face.

Your local council website provides information on local emergency management plans and arrangements including evacuation information and routes.
