Greenhouse Gases

The Greenhouse Effect is a natural property of our atmosphere that allows it to retain heat.

Global warming occurs when changes to the atmosphere allows additional heat to be trapped.

There are a number of different greenhouse gases responsible for the Greenhouse Effect.

Gases in the atmosphere that trap the sun's energy:

  • Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • Methane (CH4)
  • Nitrous oxide (N2O)
  • Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
