Queensland on alert

Queensland is on high alert and Harden Up is rearing to go!

This wonderful, award winning program motivates Queenslanders to be prepared and resilient in Queensland's harsh climate.

Right now, Queensland is facing our third dangerous fire season in a row. Experts are warning that our coastal areas are most likely to face the biggest threats, but all Queenslanders must be prepared.

Now is the time to review or even activate your personal resilience plan. Identify your risks and start talking to your household and neighbours about your bushfire survival plans.

We have all seen the incredible images of the bushfires in NSW - a timely reminder of how quickly bushfires can spread and how serious the danger is.

Find out more about the dangers of the bushfire season ahead and how you and your family can be prepared.

Expert's top tips on how to prepare

Queensland Fire and Rescue assistant commissioner Neil Gallant spoke to Green Cross Australia about how important it is for Queenslanders to prepare themselves for the bushfire. "Residents really need to take responsibility for their own safety," assistant commissioner Gallant said. "Whilst the 35,000 volunteer fire fighters across Queensland will certainly do their best to protect residents, it really is up to residents to make sure their properties are clear of vegetation," he said.

Get Ready Queensland!

Get Ready Queensland is about building our state's resilience to deal with the extreme weather and natural disasters that are a part of living in Queensland. Get Ready Week will run from 14-20 October to help get our communities get ready for the storms, cyclones and floods that can affect us during the summer season. Check with your local council to find out what’s happening in your community.
