Queensland Fire and Rescue assistant commissioner Neil Gallant spoke to Green Cross Australia about how important it is for Queenslanders to prepare themselves for the bushfire. "Residents really need to take responsibility for their own safety," assistant commissioner Gallant said. "Whilst the 35,000 volunteer fire fighters across Queensland will certainly do their best to protect residents, it really is up to residents to make sure their properties are clear of vegetation," he said.
