Real Life Tips About Building Resilience
Flood-proofing is ... Stopping water entering valuable areas.
Let water flow through non-valuable areas, eg garages, tennis courts. Use your sacks to protect more valuable home areas, eg lounge rooms, offices.
Use Sacks up against structural items, eg doors, walls, garage doors, even fences. One "fail" of a sandbagging had the bags on the downstream side of a very strong iron paling fence.
And Sandbags can be filled with almost anything, Mulch, pine bark, cushions or foam rubber of any type. Hold it down with something heavy.
Don't ignore lengths of timber, or bricks as blocking materials.
And the old camping tip... Can a trench be dug to keep the water away from your structure completely?
