The La Niña theme of plentiful rain continued with record high March rainfall and the 7th wettest start to the year. The 2010 January to March rainfall was also very high and the 4th higheast on record., with the wettest being 1974. Mornington Island set the pace with 477.2 mm to 9 am on the 1st of the month and created a new highest daily rain total for the Lower Carpentaria district. The monsoon low that produced this fall continued to traverse the western border and brought further heavy falls to western areas, including 319.1 mm at Bedourie Police Stationon the 6th in severe storm activity. This was also a new highest daily rain total for the Lower Western district. The active monsoon also brought heavy falls to the Gulf country between the 11th and 13th, with Sweers Island recording 233 mm on the 13th.
