St George experienced two major flood peaks in January 2011. These peaks were 13.2 metres (8 January) and 12.49 metres (23 January) and the major flood level (6m) was exceeded from December 7 to 13, from December 16 to 20, and from December 21 to January 2.

Residents of the nursing home were evacuated to Brisbane. 30 homes were expected to be inundated (Source: ABC).

Rainfall recorded in December 2010 and January 2011, which led to major flooding at St George, was heaviest over the eastern half of the catchment. Between 300 to 600 millimetres of rainfall was recorded over most of the Condamine River catchment during December and January, with falls up to 1000mm over the far east of the catchment. The heaviest rainfall periods from December 27 to 28, with falls between 100 and 200mm; and from January 6 to 12, with falls between 200 and 400mm.

River height records for St George at the current site commenced in 1968. The peaks on January 8 and 23 ranked as the 2nd and 3rd highest on record which rank as the 2nd and 3rd highest peaks on record. The previous time the river level at St George exceeded 13 metres was in March 2010.
