On December 28, Jericho experienced flood levels equal to those of April 1990, with the river peaking at 3.8 metres. An earlier peak of 3.08 was recorded on December 20. In Alpha, the river peaked at 9.0 metres on December 28.

Several properties were inundated and damage was caused to roads, railway lines, businesses and schools. About 16 residents were evacuated from homes in Alpha and Jericho with water at least waist to chest high. (Source: ABC).

Between 300 and 400 mm of rainfall was recorded over the Alpha-Jericho area during December and January with falls between 400 and 600 mm of rainfall over the upper reaches of Alpha Creek upstream from Alpha. The heaviest rainfall period occurred between December 24 and 28, with the area receiving up to 200 mm of rainfall.

River height records for Jericho and Alpha commenced in 1950. The peak of 3.80 metres at Jericho on December 28 equals the record river height set in April 1990. The record flood height for Alpha is 10.26 metres which occurred in April 1990.  The peak that occurred on December 28 ranks as the 3rd highest on record.
