Houses and businesses in the main street of Gympie were inundated.

Very heavy rainfall of over 600mm in the Upper Mary between January 6 and 13, with most of the Mary catchment receiving over 400mm in this period.

Flood height records at Gympie began in 1870 with 21 major flood peaks in the record. Last major flood was 21.95 metres February 1999. The highest flood on record was in 1893 at 25.45 metres.
