Rainfall that occurred in late February 2011 meant that a Coastal Flood Warning between Cooktown to Townsville was still current at 1st March, with moderate to major flooding easing along the lower Herbert River, and also in the Tully and Murray Rivers. Further heavy rainfall during early March saw flood warnings for moderate to major flooding commence between 6th to 9th March for the Barron River, Herbert River, and Tully and Murray Rivers. Additional rainfall during mid-March kept river levels high with a renewed flood warnings being issued on 16th March for minor to moderate flooding along the lower Herbert River. Further monsoon activity and rainfall totals between 200−300 mm about the Tropical North and Central Queensland Coasts at the end of March resulted in a flood warning issued on 28th March for coastal area between Cairns to Mackay.
