Minor to moderate flooding continued in the Georgina River in far Western Queensland Rivers following rainfall that occurred in late February 2011. Further moderate to heavy rainfall in the first week of March resulted in more widespread moderate to major flooding that extended further east into the catchments of the lower Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and the Cooper Creek, and the Bulloo and Warrego River catchments. Individual Flood Warnings then commenced on 5th March for the Georgina River and the Diamantina River, and the Bulloo River on 8th March. Extreme record daily rainfall of 319 mm recorded on 6th March in the Bedourie area of the lower Georgina catchment resulted in a new river height record at Bedourie Police Station of 5.68 metres. Major and moderate flood levels persisted for the remainder of the month across the Georgina and Diamantina Rivers and the Cooper Creek.
