Widespread thunderstorms again occurred on the 21st under the influence of the upper trough, with a series of thunderstorms colliding in northern New South Wales and moving north to skirt the western suburbs of Brisbane. Wind gusts of 110 to 120 km/hr and hail 5 cm in diameter were recorded at Rathdowney. Separate reports of hail 2-3 cm in diameter and wind gusts up to 100 km/hr were recorded at Rosewood, Minden and near Wivenhoe dam wall during the afternoon. There were media reports of hail 4-5 cm in diameter near Ipswich during the late afternoon, with evidence from storm-spotters suggesting some hail in the region was even larger.
