East Coast Low (2008-06-02)

Wild seas and flooding in Southeast Queensland early on 2 June 2008 were associated with a weather phenomenon called an East Coast Low.

On the Sunshine Coast six people were rescued from floodwaters. Up to 140 mm of rain fell in some parts of the coast in just three hours. Four people were pulled to safety from the top of their car.

The rain kept SES volunteers busy across Brisbane, with 40 home owners needing help. Among the worst-hit areas were the bayside suburbs of Manly and Balmoral, where 15 homes were damaged by leaking roofs.

Large seas caused erosion on the Gold Coast.

This event is classified as an East Coast Low.
