Kate developed east of Torres Strait and became a tropical cyclone Kate at 1809 UTC 22 February 2006 and further it reached maximum intensity around 2300UTC 22 February. Kate had a big impact on Torres Strait Islands where it washed away a jetty and added to the erosion damage caused by the gales last July and Ingrid and the Port Moresby cyclone last summer.
