Tropical Cyclone Rewa first formed east off the Solomon Islands and circled in the Coral Sea for 3 weeks (from 31 December 1993) before intensifying and causing extensive damage and flash floods in south-east Queensland on 20 January 1994. In Brisbane 100 homes and 20 cars were damaged by water. Weather-related traffic accidents caused 3 deaths and person drowned in a flooded Brisbane stormwater drain. Two men were rescued from a fishing trawler near Yeppoon by an army Blackhawk helicopter. A man was also rescued by a SES helicopter when his car was swept into a flooded creek.
