On 12 March 1934, a tropical cyclone crossed the north Queensland coast near Cape Tribulation. A 9.1m storm surge occurred at nearby Bailey Creek destroying crop plantations. Widespread damage and destruction of property occurred at Mossman and Daintree. Offshore, a pearling fleet just off the coast near Cape Tribulation was devastated. At Mossman Beach a number of houses were damaged and one house was lost to the sea. Not much damage at Port Douglas though there was a 1.8 m storm surge there.
